IG History at a glance!

• The breed is the smallest of the family of gazehounds (dogs that hunt by sight).

• It is believed to have originated more than 2,000 years ago in the countries now known as Greece and Turkey.

• It had become distributed throughout Southern Europe by the Middle Ages.

• It had become a favorite of Italians in the sixteenth century (The breed became known as the "Italian Greyhound." in this period of time).

• It had arrived in England in the seventeenth century.

• An Italian Greyhound was registered for the first time with the American Kennel Club in 1886.


IG Characteristics at a glance!

• Very adaptable to both city and country living

• Luxury loving and enjoys the comfort of an apartment

• Likes exercise and outdoor activities if weather permits

• Weights about 10 lbs, but can be as little as 7 lbs. or as much as 14 or 15 lbs

• Short and smooth coat and requires little grooming

• Odorless, sheds little, and not yappy

• Very deep voice for his size

• Hardy and seldom ill despite of his fragile looks

• Sensitive, alert, and intelligent and remains playful until long past puppyhood

• Adapts to most households and gets along well with other pets and children

• Eager to please and learns quickly

• Shades of fawn, cream, red, blue, or sometimes black, and it may be either solid or with various degrees of white markings.
